On June 2nd, the Feather River Stewardship Coalition was awarded a grant of $465,500 from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy to treat fuel laden forested areas on the Plumas National Forest. Approximately 250 acres around Round Valley Reservoir and 250 acres around Lake Davis are planned for treatment. These funds will be used to thin forests of ladder fuels, and prepare the land for prescribed fire which will be planned and implemented by the Forest Service after fuels removal.  These treatments will increase forest health and diversity, and decrease the damage to the forest and surrounding community in the case of a wildfire. We are thrilled to be making a tangible, positive impact on our beloved Plumas National Forest and will continue to pursue solutions for future forest management in the Feather River Watershed.
We will have a fieldtrip to the Round Valley Reservoir treatment areas on June 23rd from 3 to 5 PM. Carpooling will be available from the Plumas Corporation office parking lot at 47 Trilogy Lane in Quincy at 2:45. For more information, visit www.featherriversc.org or call Rachael Norton at (530) 238-7206.
